Sweet, salty, delicious and healthy. The perfect ‘pick me up’ bursting with flavour, free from added sugars and high in fibre and protein. If you haven’t tried bliss balls before, now’s the time.
RECIPE | Yields: approximately 16 balls | Prep time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
2 cups of medjool dates (soaked)
0.5 cup oats (*can sub gluten-free oats)
0.5 cup desiccated/shredded coconut
2 tbsp. plant protein powder (in this recipe, I have used the Misfits salted caramel flavoured vegan protein powder)
0.25 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. peanut/almond butter
Optional:
Coat bliss balls in additional shredded coconut, cocoa powder, shelled hemps seeds, crushed peanuts etc.
Method:
Start by carefully pitting each date.
Place the pitted dates in a bowl and soak in boiling water for approximately 15-20 minutes (if you are using dried dates, soak them for at least an hour).
Drain the dates and reserve some water that was used for soaking.
Add all of the ingredients into a food processor or high-speed blender along with 2 tbsp. of the water that was used for soaking the dates.
Pulse/blend the ingredients until a dough-like consistency forms.
Using your hands, roll out individual bitesize bliss balls (use approximately 1 heaped tbsp. of the mixture per ball).
Store in an airtight container either in the fridge or freezer and enjoy as a delicious sweet treat or post workout snack!
